Tour de Yorkshire flashes past award winners

28 April 2017

The tour de Yorkshire, which starts today, will be passing some of the country's very best parks and beaches.

Keep Britain Tidy manage the Blue Flag award for beaches, the Seaside Award and the Green Flag Award for parks and green spaces. That's why we are delighted that the tour will be passing so many special places.

During the first stage, the cyclists will be flashing past Pannett and Peasholm parks, both of which fly their Green Flags with pride. As well as Eco-Schools working towards their awards, community groups improving their local patch and countless volunteers who give up their free time to litter picking.

The first stage, 173km long, will begin at Bridlington and end at Scarborough North, via Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay. All four of these beaches have previously held either the Blue Flag or Seaside Award (or both) and on May 23rd Keep Britain Tidy will be announcing whether they have achieved these prestigious awards again this year.

Good luck to the riders and thank you to everyone who is working hard to make sure they ride through such special places.
