The Royal Borough of Greenwich have just published their Parks and Open Spaces Strategy. It sets out their vision for parks over the next ten years, and their commitment to delivering quality services for residents and visitors.
The centre piece of the strategy is to work hand-in-hand with the "dedicated and passionate Friends of Parks and other community groups who invest so much of their time for the benefit of us all."
Another policy includes a commitment to "retaining their 12 Green Flag Awards and using them as a benchmark for quality and maintenance of the borough's main parks."
The views and needs of residents and park users were collected, through public surveys and focus group meetings, to help inform the strategy. Just over three-quarters of those surveyed said they were either very or fairly satisfied with the Royal Borough's parks and open spaces.
The new strategy aims to build on this success by working more closely with park users, groups and the local community in the future. Residents said their priorities for the future of the area's parks include cleaning standards, maintenance of facilities and an increase in biodiversity and natural habitats.
Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Environment, Councillor Jackie Smith, said "This is a strategy by and
for the Royal Borough's park users and residents. It recognises the value and assurance already shown by
residents, staff and community groups to help maintain and improve our parks and open spaces. It also reinforces
our need to maintain and increase this partnership approach to help us care for and improve our parks and open
spaces for the benefit of and enjoyment of future generations."
