The Civic Trust

The Civic Trust, the country’s leading urban environment charity, manages the Green Flag Award scheme.  The Trust’s aim is to inspire and promote progressive improvements in the quality of urban life for everyone, and the Green Flag Awards are a key part of that objective.

The Civic Trust has campaigned and worked in regeneration and urban development for over 40 years.  It is the umbrella body for 850 Civic Societies across the country, representing 250,000 individuals concerned with all aspects of the urban environment, from planning and conservation to economic development and the evening economy. The Trust campaigns on behalf of this movement, works practically on regeneration projects in towns and cities, and encourages community engagement in the urban renaissance.  As well as recognising the vital role that quality green spaces play in improving urban life, the Trust also rewards the very best architectural projects which have a positive impact on their local community, through the Civic Trust Awards.  It also manages Heritage Open Days, which celebrates architecture and our cultural heritage.
